Today I experienced what is known to be the “Fix-it-guy” mentality. Since my friends know I’m into computers and the digital lifestyle, they automatically assume that I know how to fix either their gadgets or their PC’s. They often use me as their personal Technician. Although I know how to tinker stuff, I don’t do it professionally and I do it for my personal needs.

Just a few months back I even got stressed out by a friend trying to harass me to install a dial-up connection for his fathers all new PC… What they forgot to actually put in is the actual telephone line, see how dependent people are when there’s an easy way to just get your friends to do stuff for you.

Cyber-Assault on Estonia

Cyberattacks started April 27 knocking out websites of government departments, political parties, media groups and banks punished one of the worlds most wired countries. This is a form of warning to other nations how a sustained and organized assault to the Internet can affect the countries stability.

The attacks started the day the Estonian authorities removed a controversial Soviet war memorial from a park in the capital, Tallinn.. The perpetrators sophisticated bombardment was unprecedented, it marked the first time the power centers of an entire nation were targeted simultaneously. It was DDOS (Distributed Denial Of Service) attack. It brings the thought that what stops Organizations like al-Qaeda using cyber-attack and do reconnaissance if they have experts doing it for them? In the recent issue of TIME, in Top Business Teams topic there was an interview for 37signals with the header saying:

Small is Essential. With a million users and a payroll of eight, software sensation 37signals excels by doing more with less.

They also proudly display on their website 37signals.com a quote from TIME magazine stating, “One of the Net’s rising stars”.

What caught my attention however is a quote from Jason Fried the founder of 37signals to the question, “Why does 37signals avoid meetings at all costs”.

Interruption is the biggest enemy of productivity. We stay away from each other.
